07/02/2012

Today was a day of relaxation - we had blocked it out because we didn't want to do anymore sightseeing and instead relax. In fact, Claire went off and did her thing while I did mine.
Claire went shopping for local Indian clothes (trousers and top) with Laika in the Leela hotel, a luxury hotel beyond anything she's ever seen before - her words. Afterwards they went off to see Laika's horse, which were staying at the Bangalore Turf Club (Bangalore Races).
In the meantime I was speaking to Ajith who casually told me that another couple of their customers had come back from shopping - with a Kindle eReader! He forgot to ask them where they bought it but thought it was around M.G. Road. So after shower and breakfast, with Claire out of the way, I spent 3 hours going from shop to shop looking for the Kindle - to no avail, as most didn't know what it was, and some did but had no idea where to get it. After visiting in the region of 50 stores across M.G. Road and 3 other semi-major roads to no avail, I finally gave up and returned at around 15:00 - mission failed!
Shortly afterwards Claire returned with Laika and Laika & Ajith invited us to the Bangalore Club in the evening time. The club is a social & sports club, situated in the middle of Bangalore - somewhat posh ;-) It boasts having had Winston Churchill as a member in his early days - and famously he still owes Rs.13,-, documented in the unrecoverable debt section of their books. Prince Charles famously tried to repay it but the Indians refused, strangely... ;-)
Anyway, we went there at around 19:00 and Laika gave us the grand tour around the place while Ajith was shopping (yes, it's got grocery, wine and meat shops there as well). Afterwards we all met on the lawn next to the bar where we had a heap of Indian delicacies (and springrolls, courtesy of Claire, of course ;-) including the traditional south-Indian Dosa made from rice - all very nice!
At around 22:00 we drove back - and Claire and I went to bed straight away.
Laika and Ajith really are very nice and attentive hosts - and they really go that much further than any other guest house. So the next time we visit another guest house we will undoubtedly feel let down from the onset! ;-) And if any of our readers ever come to Bangalore, then you must come and stay with them for a few nights!
