We had agreed that today would be sightseeing day so we got up at 7:30, showered and had coffee - and went for breakfast at 8:30, which had an OK selection of Indian and Western food.
Afterwards we went out and took the train near Chennai Beach where we walked for a while to St. George's Fort (as we were on the opposite side of the area where the train stopped) and had a look around and inside the museum there. It was probably the most impressive museum we have spotted so far because they actually kept it in good and clean shape. Also, it helped that the museum unexpectedly gave a bit of Danish history in the context of India - apparently we had set-up a total of 3 "subsidies" ;-) We also found Danish coins and cannons there, which was pretty impressive so far away from Denmark when you're least expecting it ;-) Outside we also met a very chatty and friendly Indian who wanted to have our pictures with him taken by us - and then emailed to him - got the email address on his business card but not sure I can interpret the address - we shall see... ;-)
After spending a couple of hours there we left and went north to the High Court. What was impressive was that the public is actually allowed to sightsee and if you want you can even go for a sit-down and a gander during a case - we didn't but we did have a look inside one of the court rooms - of which there were very many - no idea how many but probably more than 50. It was massive and tonnes of vultures... I mean advocates... hovering around in their gear with their clients. We spent about half an hour there as we were on the clock (only supposed to spend an hour there) and then exited through the north gate where we went through a couple of shopping streets before hitting the Chennai Beach back again, which was full of little huts selling all sorts of stuff - from toasters to phones and DVD players - and of course plenty (and I mean plenty!) of bootlegged DVDs - we of course perused the offerings and may or may not have bought a few... ;-)
Afterwards Claire was showing signs of feeling sick and we decided to return to the apartment. So off we went on the next door train station, got us a couple of tickets and returned to our station. On the way back we came across baby potatoes and carrots and bought a couple of bags of those.
On our return to the apartment I washed and cooked said potatoes and carrots, which turned out to be quite nice with cream cheese and olive oil ;-)
At that point it was 16:00 and Claire went to bed and watched television as she was not feeling too well - and finally went for a small snooze. A couple of hours later she woke up and we decided to try out the Indian ready meals that we had bought yesterday - and they were fantastic - like a Tesco's Finest meal - but for no more than €0.80 - 1.50 a pop. We're hooked - we will get more and save a lot of money in the process! ;-)
