Claire and Morten Travel Blog in India 2012: 14/03/2012

I woke up at just before 7:00 as activity started around this time on the train and the elderly man was making mobile phone calls at this time of the morning?!?!!? Claire woke up about an hour later and we spoke a bit to the couple while waiting to arrive. The train turned out to be nearly an hour late so we arrived at 12:45.
We went to the prepaid taxi queue, got our cab and were on our way - for a few hundred meters before we got stuck in traffic. So we ended up spending an hour in traffic and didn't arrive in the NIPS Service Apartments in the Salt Lake City part until 14:00. The apartments were OK but nothing special - and located in a nice and very leafy part of Kolkata, which even boasts a very nice and clean park nearby - definitely not something we had expected from the city. We are now bracing ourselves for tomorrow's stark contrast in the remaining city.
Staff in the complex were nice but had very little English - so that's going to be interesting.
After we finished our check-in, we ordered lunch from them and then had showers. Afterwards we went down to eat some nice stir-fried chicken/noodles/egg and a Masala curry with rice and roti's.
Then we went outside for a walk and came upon Salt Lake City's park, which was full of rosemantic couples, lots of flowers, trees and nice shrubbery - and a nice like. We spent about an hour there and then went walking around the area again before, did a bit of shopping in a local shop and finally had a Pepsi and a Lassi in a Dosa-wallah shop where I got eaten alive by mosquitoes again, for the first time in... Weeks...?!
We then returned to our apartment and relaxed for the rest of the night.
